Questions?
Will a new parent receive the exact gift I purchase?
As often as possible, we will match the exact donation to a charity gift request. However, your donations will be distributed based on applicant demand. For example, if X number of donors buy a “Nutrition” gift, but the majority of applicants are requesting a “Necessity” gift, then the funds will be reallocated accordingly. We will not deny an applicant a charity gift due to the type of donations purchased.
Don’t worry, the gift you purchase matters! The funds donated will be sorted into two categories, “service subsidies” and “goods to purchase” meaning that if you are passionate about subsidising costs of postpartum professionals, your donation will support that cause and will not be reallocated to gift cards or item purchases. The type of service donated however, is subject to change based on demand as explained above.
If funds are ultimately sorted into two categories, why create a charity gift donation experience?
In addition to providing financial assistance, Lighthouse Postpartum strives to highlight the vitality of postpartum care. Postpartum care is not a luxury, it's a necessity. With increased public awareness of the importance of these services, we can strive for a future that includes postpartum care in healthcare plans, insurance coverage and furthers union conversations. We hope the catalog gift donation experience allows everyone to come away with a more informed perspective on the postpartum experience.
How are gifts given to applicants?
100% of your donation will go to an applicant. The applicant will disclose their email in the gift application and receive an e-transfer of the amount requested in exchange for a proof of purchase. In the case of service subsidy, the applicant will first be put in contact with the service provider to discuss cost and then will be transferred the amount of cost subsidy available.
Do I qualify to apply as a charity gift recipient?
Are you a parent to a child between 0-1 years old? Yes! You qualify. Our charity aims to support new parents in need of financial assistance, but as there are many possible social, personal, and environmental factors that could create obstacles in receiving postpartum care, our donations will be distributed on a first come first serve basis. As far as we are concerned, if you are a new parent, then you are in need.
Do I need to disclose personal information in order to receive a gift?
Lighthouse Postpartum requires proof of residency in Nova Scotia, and proof of parenthood. This can take many forms, depending on your comfort level. To receive funds, Lighthouse will need only the email of the applicant. No banking information is necessary. Click here to see a list of accepted forms of evidence of residency and postpartum status.
Can I apply for more than one charity gift?
Yes. If you wish to apply for two or more gifts (of the same item or different) then you can do so. Since our gift distribution is ‘first come first serve’, after you receive your first gift, you will be moved to the back of the queue of applicants.
I have adopted a child; do I still qualify as a charity gift recipient?
Yes. Lighthouse Postpartum extends support to parents of adopted children, parents suffering infant loss, and foster parents. The applications for donation recipients will request a proof of parenthood, and we accept various forms of evidence including ones that accommodate these circumstances.
